June market update – global equity markets rebounded

Global equity markets rebounded strongly in June to end the second quarter in positive territory overall. Boosted by a more dovish outlook from the US Federal Reserve and market expectations of interest rate cuts, US equities rose to record highs in the month as the US dollar weakened.

What else happened?

  • There were positive returns in Europe as the European Central Bank hinted at further stimulus, while Asian and Emerging market equities largely recovered May’s losses
  • The more dovish sentiment from global Central banks also led sovereign bond yields to multi-year lows during the month, while gold prices rose to six-year highs
  • In commodity markets June was a positive month for energy prices, as tensions between Iran and the US escalated and the latest inventory data highlighted lower stockpiles
