Tilney Bestinvest sponsors Winning Scotland Foundation’s ‘Champions in Schools’ programme

Tilney Bestinvest is proud to announce its support for Winning Scotland Foundation’s ‘Champions in Schools’ programme in 2014/15. The programme places top Scottish athletes in the classroom to deliver a series of inspirational workshops.

Aimed at pupils of late primary and early secondary school age, athletes deliver three workshops to a selected group of 20-30 young people over the course of an academic year in schools across Scotland. Each visit is approximately six to eight weeks apart and pupils are set 'Champions Challenges' to work towards between each visit.

Athletes involved in the programme include judo champion and Team Scotland flag bearer at Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Euan Barton, Aileen Neilson, paralympian wheelchair curler, Polar Explorer Craig Mathieson and international football goalkeeper Gemma Fay.  Scottish international rugby scrum-half Greg Laidlaw and mountain bike racer Ruaridh Cunningham have also previously contributed to the programme.

The athletes use their sporting achievements and experience to help pupils learn to overcome setbacks, work hard and strive for continual improvement. By using sport as a learning tool, the Foundation is aiming to enable young people to be well-prepared for their lives ahead of them.
