Every charity has different investment principles and aspirations and operates against an increasingly complex regulatory backdrop. This is why it is vital to choose an investment manager that specialises in your sector, has the experience to understand your charity's specific challenges and the skills to meet your unique objectives.
Tilney has been helping charities since we first opened our doors more than 180 years ago. Our business has grown and evolved over the years and we now have a large, dedicated charities team located across the UK.
We have the depth of expertise to help your charity make sound investment decisions and achieve your financial objectives.
How we work with you
Building strong, long-lasting relationships
Your charity's circumstances and ambitions are unique so our work begins with a conversation. During our initial meeting, we'll learn about your charity's investment criteria and aims. Equally, you will get to know us, the people managing your investments. It's the start of a lasting relationship and our commitment to delivering the results you desire.
Investment policy statements
Current regulation provides trustees with powers to delegate management of their investments, but when doing so the trustees are required to prepare an investment policy statement. We are very happy to help trustees prepare this statement or provide a template as a starting point.
We are conscious that the generation of a growing income is a critical component of the investment objective for many charities. In some cases, the income is required to meet the costs of running the charity and others may wish to distribute the investment income to causes they support whilst allowing the capital potential to grow. We have the ability and experience to cater for both scenarios.
Keeping you informed
We believe there is no better way to achieve success than by working closely with you. We encourage face-to-face meetings and you will receive regular reviews to ensure your investments are on track. We will provide advice on enhancing your portfolio together with training and workshops for trustees and other charity personnel.
Our services for charities
Discretionary Investment Management
Our discretionary investment management service provides the freedom and flexibility to build a customised investment solution that will meet the precise needs of your individual charity. You will benefit from the expertise of our highly qualified investment managers who have extensive experience of both investments and the charity sector.
They will work with you to understand your charity’s needs, attitude to risk and ethical considerations before building an investment portfolio for you.
We can also provide an investment advisory service for our charity clients where this is more appropriate. Under this arrangement the final investment decision will lie with the trustees. Under each service your portfolio will be managed or advised on an ongoing basis making full use of Tilney’s extensive research capabilities, in-depth analysis and expert investment selection.
To ensure your portfolio mirrors your charity's principles, we use ethical screening solutions from EIRIS, a leading global provider of research into corporate environmental, social and governance performance. We will also continue monitoring and adapting your portfolio where necessary to make sure it always reflects your ethical considerations.
